A History
of Zambia by Andrew
Roberts
This is the history of the
territory which in 1964 became the independent state of Zambia. It was not until
the 19th Century that this territory became the British colony of Northern
Rhodesia. Its frontiers, like so many colonial territories, bore little relation
to previous political, economic or social divisions.
In 1953 Northern Rhodesia became part of the Central African Federation. One of
the few unqualified achievements of this experiment was the development of a
National Archives service. This sponsored the first comprehensive study of the
country’s colonial history.
The book also deals with the country’s first 10 years of independence.
